The magic behind a well prepared meal.
Angua Agnes a resident of Obilokong Village in Adjumani District is 33 years old and happily married with 5 children. She has been struggling with the health of her young children who often fell sick and she has been on and off the hospital. From the hospital she was advised to prepare some greens for the children during meals in order to boost their immunity so that their bodies can fight diseases. With this she thought all was going to be well. “I did my level best to ensure I prepare greens in all the meals the results seems not to be as I expected and I continued visiting the health center with similar issues.” During EMB sensitization meeting at Obilokong, Agnes was one of the participants and she learnt how to prepare greens from this meeting. ”When CASCADE project staff visited our parish for male engagement meeting, they also thought us how to prepare greens. Here I realized that the problem was the preparation of the greens. I used to first boil greens and pour the first soup because I thought it was dirty and bad. After your staff explaining us to how to prepare greens, I learnt that what the body needs most is in the soup that I have been pouring away from the first lot of the cooking.” With a smiling face and not wanting to stop sharing her learnings she continues to narrate how the meeting was so important to her. “I realized that I have been cooking food without covering the cooking saucepan as the traditional mothers thought us not knowing that it was allowing the nutrients to escape into the atmosphere with the moisture content.” When asked if the health of her children has improved from the time she started preparing greens well this is what she had to say. “I now feel I have a stronger family and I don’t visit the health more often as I used to. I now know what the body needs in terms of nutrients and I want to thank you so much for bringing this messages to us.”
