Seeds of Gold

Mawgbi Dickson is a 30 year old resident of Esia Village in Adropi Sub-county. He has been married for the last ten years and he has three children. He and his wife live in a homestead with his many other siblings. His wife is a lead mother in the village and to him this role has helped them live a happy family since there were also selected as model house hold.in the Parish. For him coming from a role model home is something that has brought a lot of responsibility to him as he started helping his wife our some of the household chores since the wife is up and down supporting other women. He takes care their children when his wife is not there and to him this is now part of his roles. “For me ever since my wife become a lead mother, I assumed some of her work here at home. I cooked bath my children and even sweep the compound”. Dickson and wife decided to establish several backyard gardens around the home stead with the aim of diversifying diets at and also supplementing their household income from sale of surplus. “We established this garden to improve on our feeding at home. We no longer buy greens from the market and this has made us save some money for buying other basic needs”. We are also planning to expand the size of garden and we want to keep growing greens even during dry season. Having attended one of sensitizations meetings organized by sub-county CDO he says it has had a positive impact in his life. “My thinking towards women has really changed I used to think whatever they are doing is their core roles, but after the meeting I learnt to support my wife with homework. This was evidenced during our visit when his wife had gone for burial and he was cooking for his children.
